Canada’s DHX Media has inked an exclusive deal with streaming service Hulu to premiere its 2D-animated series Dr. Dimensionpants in the US.
The 26 x half-hour comedy series from creator/executive producer Brad Peyton (San Andreas, Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore) will debut on June 13 in Hulu’s ad-free kids section.
Originally commissioned by Corus Entertainment’s Canadian animation net Teletoon, Dr. Dimensionpants targets six- to 11-year-olds and follows the adventures of Kyle Lipton, a seemingly normal kid until he discovers a pair of magical cosmic trousers that transform him into mustachioed, alter-ego superhero Dr. Dimensionpants.
Since debuting on Teletoon last November, the series has been picked up by numerous international linear broadcasters, including Turner Broadcasting (Latin America, France, Germany, Denmark, Norway, Central and Eastern Europe, Russia, Spain, Italy, Poland and Portugal), France Télévisions, ABC Australia, MBC (the Middle East) and Noga (Israel).
The deal comes as Hulu continues to ramp up its kids acquisitions to stay on track with bigger competitors Netflix and Amazon. It also helps strengthen DHX Media’s digital content sales, which helped boost its recent Q3 earnings to reach record levels.
