French kidsnet Gulli has greenlit Paris-based indie Cottonwood Media’s new animated comedy Squish for production.

Geared towards kids ages six to 11, Squish follows the world of an amoeba looking to survive life in the cutthroat world of single-cell organisms—as well as school. The show is based on the New York Times bestselling graphic novels by Jennifer Holm and Matthew Holm, published by Random House Children’s Books.

Production has started on the 52 x 11-minute series with John Derevlany, whose credits include Lego: Legend of Chima, Johnny Test and The Angry Beavers, heading up development. Set to be produced in digital 2D, Squish is slated for a 2017 delivery.

Upstart Cottonwood, founded in September by industry vet David Michel, is on a roll. Last week, the prodco secured a deal with 24-hour preschool net Sprout for The Ollie & Moon Show.

The existing six-book Squish series has sold more than one million copies to date, with a new title set to roll out each year.
