Halifax, Canada’s DHX Media has appointed Toronto-based Spin Master to distribute new Teletubbies toys from London-headquartered master toy licensee Character Options. In addition, DHX Television is adding the rebooted series to the new programming lineup for Family Jr., its rebranded preschool channel.

DHX has licensed the 60-episode Teletubbies series for exclusive linear English broadcast in Canada on the preschool channel, with eps slated to start airing in winter 2016.

The CBeebies-commissioned Teletubbies series launches on the UK pubcaster this fall, and Spin Master will distribute Characters Options’ range of plush, plastics and bath toys across Canada, the US, France, Germany, Belgium, Netherlands and Luxembourg in 2016.

UK prodco Darral Macqueen is producing the revamped series, which features the same classic characters with a contemporary CGI-look, for Teletubbies brand owner DHX Media.

The original series created by Anne Wood debuted in 1997 and went on to air in more than 120 territories in 45 languages.  Despite no new episodes being produced since 2001, Teletubbies retains a remarkable following on YouTube, averaging more than 65 million views per month.
