Lionsgate and Hasbro have greenlit a feature film inspired by the classic Monopoly board game.

BAFTA-winning writer, producer and director Andrew Niccol (The Truman Show, Gattaca, The Terminal) has been tapped to pen the screenplay, and Lionsgate will finance and co-produce the pic with Hasbro’s Allspark Pictures. A release date has not yet been announced.

Targeting filmgoers of all ages, this action-adventure story will follow a boy from Baltic Avenue who uses both chance and community as he sets out to build his fortune. He’ll need a little luck along the way to avoid bankruptcy and, of course, stay out of jail.

The iconic 80-year-old board game—based on street names in Atlantic City, New Jersey—has been played by more than a billion people in 114 countries, and translated into 47 languages.
