Toronto, Canada-based Shaftesbury’s new preschool series The Moblees has moved beyond the TV screen with the launch of a Canadian live tour and a iPad app produced by the prodco’s digital studio Smokebomb Entertainment.

The free iPad app for the series is now available in the App Store in Canada, with funding from The Telus Fund and pubcaster Kids’ CBC. When open, the new app uses audio technology to sense when an episode of The Moblees is airing on Kids’ CBC. It then syncs to the episode in real time, and counts down to when kids should start moving along with the characters in the show. Parents can also record their kids moving along with The Moblees using the iPad camera to create an “appisode” that can be watched repeatedly.

The Moblees will also be going on tour this summer. Presented in partnership with live kids entertainment producer Kidomo, The Moblees Super Summer Movin’ Tour will include 35 stops across Canada and feature interactive performances by The Moblees live group and an activity tent.  It kicked off on July 11 in Belleville and will run through the end of September. The series and Kids’ CBC are also teaming up with ParticipACTION to explore additional outreach opportunities via the organization’s 3,400 community groups across Canada.

The Moblees is co-produced by Shaftesbury and Halifax, Nova Scotia-based Boulevard, in association with the CBC, Ohmland Holdings and William Kohane. Based on the theatrical production The Ohmies from Laurie Miller and Benjamin Tollefson, the series is distributed by Shaftesbury.
