European producer/distributer Planeta Junior (Mutant Busters) has joined forces with Spanish production house Isla Audiovisual and Sony Music Entertainment to co-produce Oliver Rock, a new live-action comedy series for tweens.

Based on an original concept by Isla Audiovisual, the 26 x 22-minute series targets kids ages seven to 12 and marks Planeta Junior’s first foray into live-action production.

Oliver Rock follows the adventures of the best rock band on Earth, The Olivers. The catch is that the band lives in the dreams of a 12-year-old boy named Oliver.

The series will also feature music from real-life Spanish act La Sonrisa de Julia, which will appear as the Billy Boom Band in every episode.

Production on Oliver Rock is set to begin this summer with a format that blends digital effects, music videos, puppets and street sports.

Planeta Junior is representing the series globally and introduced Oliver Rock at MIPTV this year.

The co-pro announcement comes on the heels of Planeta Junior partnering with Triacom Audiovisual, Televisión Española (TVE), Televisió de Catalunya (TVC) and Toonz Entertainment on a new animated series called Bubble Bip for kids four to seven.
