In meeting a rising demand for global children’s content, Canada’s DHX Media has tapped former Turner exec Richard Rowe  as director of international acquisitions and co-productions.

Rowe will be tasked with sourcing original content for co-productions, as well as acquiring new programming for DHX Media’s distribution unit.

No stranger to DHX, he worked with the company during his 12-year stint at Turner Broadcasting and also while leading his own children’s TV consultancy, Rowe Media.

At Turner, Rowe’s remit covered most international markets, working in a variety of roles that included programming, acquisitions, co-productions and development.

The appointment comes on the heels of DHX’s strongest-ever quarter, wherein the company saw Q3 revenues rise 195% to US$71.6 million compared with US$24.3 in 2014. Of that 195%, distribution growth accounted for 71%.

Despite some big transitions on the horizon for DHX – its Disney Junior and Disney XD specialty channels are set to rebrand as Family Junior (English)/Famille Junior (French) and Family XTRM by November 30 – the company says it remains optimistic for the future of its TV business.
