Canada’s Corus Entertainment is pulling the plug on Teletoon Retro. The channel, which features throwback cartoons such as Looney Tunes and ScoobyDoo, will go off-air on September 1, 2015.

The broadcaster previously announced it would launch the Disney Channel in Canada on September 1, however a company spokesperson could not confirm if the Disney Channel would be taking over the Teletoon Retro license, saying that details about the channel’s carriage and distribution would be announced at a later date.

Corus says the move to discontinue Teletoon Retro came as a result of strategic changes to its channel lineup. Some of the Teletoon Retro programming will be moving over to Teletoon in September, according to Corus’ corporate website.

The decision to remove the specialty channel follows the Let’s Talk TV decisions issued by the Canadian CRTC this spring, including the introduction of pick-and-pay. The CRTC also ordered cable companies to offer consumers a US$20 entry-level cable package of Canadian channels. These new policies are set to come into effect by December 2016.
