The first 2D-animated series from new Montréal, Canada-based indie prodco ToonDraw Productions, Yaya & Zouk, made its TV debut on Radio-Canada on September 12 and on French-speaking kidsnet Yoopa today.

From Toopy and Binou creators Raymond Lebrun and Dominique Jolin, the 78 x five-minute preschool series follows the everyday lives of two siblings, big sister YaYa and her little brother Zouk, as they move between their real world and playful imaginary ones where toys come to life.

The series was made entirely at ToonDraw’s studio in Old Montréal, which launched in March 2015.

Two additional 2D-animated projects currently in development at ToonDraw are 39 x five-minute preschool series Genius Genie and 26 x 11-minute comedy Animal Talk.

The former is being developed in collaboration with Radio-Canada and Télé-Québec and tells the story of a group of kids and a not-so-brilliant genie who claims he’s an expert problem-solver.

The latter targets kids ages eight to 10 and features a reality TV show format where animals get the last word.
