Sao Paulo-based TV and film production company Glaz and animation facility Copa Studio in Rio are set to consolidate into a new holding company named Glaz following the receipt of a seven-figure Investimage 1 fund under Brazil’s government incentive system Funcine.

Together as Glaz, the new company expects to grow by 150% by 2017 and build on the success of its combined kids shows Haunted Tales (pictured), Jorel’s Brother and Trunk Train, which have aired on Cartoon Network in Latin America.

Distributed internationally by Canada’s 9 Story Media Group, Haunted Tales from Glaz follows the adventures of a 12-year-old boy who helps out at his grandmother’s potion emporium.

The series for tweens was Brazil’s most watched pay-TV program for kids in 2013.

Copa’s Jorel’s Brother, for its part, was Cartoon Network’s first original series produced in Brazil and a top-performing show in 2014.

The studio’s second animated series, Trunk Train, won support from the Brazilian government’s animation series development program AnimaTV in 2009 and is currently distributed by Cake Entertainment.

Aside from kids content, Glaz also produces fiction, documentary and factual shows. To date, it has delivered seven feature films for theatrical release and its coproduction with Fox and Globo Filmes, Worms, was the first stop-motion animated feature produced in Brazil. It had theatrical releases in the US and France.

Glaz will officially announce the company’s merger with Copa on October 6 at MIPCOM next month, and the new entity will be on the lookout for international partnerships at the market.
