China-based animation studio and toyco Guangdong Alpha Animation and Culture has partnered with Hasbro to expand its popular Blazing Team franchise globally, beginning with a US launch for its re-imagined TV series and toy line.
Under the companies’ new joint-venture to co-develop brands, Blazing Team will debut in the US on Discovery Family Channel with a two-part premiere on November 13. The series will then roll out internationally in 2016.
The boy-skewing series, produced by Alpha in association with Hasbro Studios, takes viewers into the mystical world of Yo Kwon Do, a practice that brings the skills of the yo-yo together with martial arts.
Blazing Team follows the adventures of a group of regular teens who learn to harness the power of Yo Kwon Do to battle a mysterious new threat in their city.
For the brand’s consumer products program, Hasbro is expected to roll out a line of Blazing Team yo-yos in the US from March 2016, followed by new markets later in the year.
The partnership comes after Hasbro reported a Q3 profits increase of 15% last week, driven by strong sales in the toyco’s boys division with hit properties like Star Wars and Jurassic World.
This is not Alpha’s first move into the States. Its Super Wings! co-pro with Funny Flux debuted on Sprout earlier this year and as master toy partner for the animated preschool series, Alpha subsidiary Auldey Toys of North America introduced a toy program for the property at Toys ‘R’ Us in October.
