Canadian pubcaster Kids’ CBC has greenlit Dot., a new 52 x 11-minute animated TV series based on the debut children’s book from bestselling author, digital lifestyle expert and entrepreneur Randi Zuckerberg. The series is produced by Toronto-based studio Industrial Brothers (Yup Yups) in association with The Jim Henson Company.
Targeting kids ages four to seven, the series circumnavigates the notions of screen time awareness in following the comedic adventures of a curious and tech-savvy little girl, Dot, who loves her electronic gadgets but learns to find a healthy balance between digital time and physical playtime outside with her dog and friends.
In each episode, Dot encourages both practical exploration and creativity with tech tools that enhance playtime and stimulate imagination and learning.
Dot. is executive produced by Industrial Brothers’ Matthew Fernandes and Tammy Semen, The Jim Henson Company’s Lisa Henson and Halle Stanford, along with Zuckerberg Media’s founder and CEO Randi Zuckerberg.
In addition, Karen Fowler will serve as head of production, Arthur Spanos as executive consultant and Meghan Read as story editor.
The Jim Henson Company is managing all media rights for the IP outside of Canada, as well as Dot’s worldwide consumer products rights.
The greenlight comes after kids TV producer Martin Markle returned to the CBC in September to lead Kids’ CBC creatively after the exit of Kim Wilson this spring.
