She’s spent 30 years entrenched in global mystery, and now Carmen Sandiego is taking her first step into the world of Apple.
Global learning company Houghton Mifflin Harcourt has launched the first iOS app for the brand, aptly named Carmen Sandiego Returns, which consists of mini-games designed for mobile-toting tweens.
The strategy-based app positions players as ACME agents on a global mission – using iOS accelerometer functionality – to capture the elusive Carmen Sandiego and her V.I.L.E. henchmen.
For US$1.99, the game’s initial download features three missions and four mini-game challenges, and additional packs featuring new cities, challenges and crimes are available for in-app purchase. Plus, Carmen Coins can be earned along the way, which can be spent on fast travel, mini-game boosts and status elevation.
Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, fresh off the launch of its new SVOD-based learning app Curious World, has indicated that Carmen’s comeback will usher in further developments over the coming months. Carmen Sandiego first entered the market in 1985 with games for CD-ROM and PC download in classrooms and homes across the country. In the 90s, the brand hit the small screen with Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?, followed by Where in Time Is Carmen Sandiego? and Where on Earth Is Carmen Sandiego?
