Sesame Workshop has appointed Vietnam’s Thaole Entertainment as its master distributor for Southeast Asia.

The deal covers rights terrestrial, pay-TV and SVOD platforms in territories including Malaysia, Thailand, Taiwan, Myanmar, Cambodia, Laos and The Philippines.

Thaole now has the rights to distribute both newer and classic Workshop series such as Sesame Street, The Furchester Hotel, Super Healthy Monsters, Elmo the Musical and Cookies Crumby Pictures. The company will also work closely with the Workshop’s longtime licensing/retail partner in Southeast Asia, Click Licensing Asia in Singapore, to extend the brand’s off-screen impact across the region.

In October, Sesame Workshop signed broadcast deals with three of China’s largest digital platforms–iQIYI, Tencent Video and Alibaba’s Tmall Box–to stream an international version of Sesame Street and related spin-offs. It is also making noise in the digital space of late. Last week, the US nonprofit partnered with New York-based interactive toyco Tiggly to launch an early literacy app starring Cookie Monster.
