Santa Monica, California-based multiplatform media company Shout! Factory has nabbed US distribution rights to the new animated feature film SNOWTIME! from Montreal, Canada’s CarpeDiem Film & TV.
The agreement spans theatrical, broadcast, VOD, digital and home entertainment platforms. Shout! Factory is planning to strategically roll the movie out across multiple outlets, starting with a theatrical launch in early 2016 through Shout’s kids and family imprint, Shout! Factory Kids.
Produced by Marie-Claude Beauchamp (The Legend of Sarila) and directed by Jean-François Pouliot (La Grande Séduction), the family-adventure film will debut at Sundance, which runs from January 21 to 31 in Park City, Utah.
SNOWTIME! is based on classic Canadian live-action film La Guerre des Tuques (The Dog Who Stopped the War). The film sees kids in a small village form opposing groups during their winter school break and square off in a massive snowball fight, and whichever side occupies the fort at the end of the break wins. The story explores themes of friendship, unity and rivalry, with an underlying message that neither side wins a war.
The voice cast includes Golden Globe-winner Sandra Oh (Grey’s Anatomy, Sideways), Angela Gallupo (Being Human) and Ross Lynch (Disney Channel’s Austin & Ally and pop band R5), and its soundtrack features songs from Céline Dion, Simple Plan, Walk off the Earth, Groenland and Marie-Mai.
