Cartoon Network Studios is turning to indie developers to help create the digital world for its new superhero property OK K.O.! Lakewood Plaza Turbo.

Based on renowned animator Ian Jones-Quartey’s (Steven Universe) original short film, Lakewood Plaza Turbo, OK K.O.! Lakewood Plaza Turbo is set in Lakewood Plaza, a mall for superheroes. It follows hopeful young champion K.O. and his superhero convenience store buddies as they battle evil Lord Boxman, who is set on destroying the plaza with his army of inventive robots.

CN is launching the property as a mobile game first, and it’s now looking for indie developers to make additional digital content and animated shorts for based on OK K.O.! Lakewood Plaza Turbo, to bring different perspectives to the property.

To that end, after the first iteration of the mobile game goes live, CN is hosting a Game Jam weekend for 200 indie game developers in Portland, Oregon, from February 12 to 14, where they will have 48 hours to create their own games based on the cast in the Lakewood Plaza universe. Winning teams will receive full-funding to develop their prototype.

Lakewood Plaza Turbo was incubated at Cartoon Network Studio’s Artists Program, and the world of OK K.O.! was developed in partnership with Toby Jones (Regular Show) and Canadian indie game studio Double Stallion.
