Irish distributor Monster Entertainment has struck a deal with Gulli Africa for Jabu’s Jungle, a new animated series for kids ages four to seven from South African studio Pixcomm.
Set to broadcast in 22 French-speaking African countries, the 13 x 22-minute series follows the adventures of a fearless nine-year-old boy and his magical talking drum, who explore the African jungle helping animals in need.
Made in Cape Town’s Masiphumelele township, the series follows a unique production model whereby experienced animators are partnered with young, local artists to help give the program its authentic African look and feel.
In return, local residents get paid, hands-on, apprentice-style training.
While Monster looks for further sales, Pixcomm has begun production on a second season of Jabu’s Jungle, which will be complete by October 2016 in time for MIP Junior.
The deal follows Monster’s successful distribution of two additional South African series, Jungle Beat and Magic Cellar.
