With a raft of licensing deals in place, VIZ Media Europe has sold animated series Yo-Kai Watch into more than a hundred countries across Europe and Africa, where it will debut starting this spring.

The Dentsu, Level-5 and TV Tokyo co-produced-series has already premiered in the US and Japan, and the show’s first season will mark its European debut with a launch on Cartoon Network UK on April 23. The show will also air on France’s BOING in April, followed by Gulli in September and Cartoon Network France in March 2017.

Additional territories include Germany and Austria (Nickelodeon), Spain (BOING), Africa (BOING), Belgium and the Netherlands (Nickelodeon) and Israel (Noga). Cartoon Network will also roll-out the series across Central and Eastern Europe, as well as Portugal, Turkey, Poland and the Nordic region, starting this spring.

Yo-Kai Watch tells the story of a young boy who who gets a special watch that empowers him to discover mysterious beings, called Yo-Kai. The boy is tasked with finding out the reason for the Yo-Kai’s mischievous behavior and to talk them out of it, using his own creativity and wit.

Created by Japanese video game company Level-5, the franchise currently encompasses a Nintendo 3DS video game series, manga and related books, as well as a Hasbro toy range.  This past fall, VIZ Media Europe appointed UK agency Bulldog Licensing and German brand-management company m4e to rep the brand in the UK and German-speaking territories, respectively.
