In a mash-up move to appease various generations of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles fans, Nickelodeon will air a special episode of the revamped series on March 27 at 11:00 a.m. (ET/PT) that sees the modern CGI-animated Turtles join forces with their 2D-animated counterparts from the ’80s and the original comic book Turtles.
In the time-travelling half-hour episode entitled “Trans-Dimensional Turtles,” the original voice cast from the classic series—Cam Clarke, Rob Paulsen, Barry Gordon and Townsend Coleman—will reprise their roles as Leonardo, Raphael, Donatello, and Michelangelo, respectively.
Actor Pat Fraley will also return for the first time since the original series launched as the voice of super villain Krang.
The episode pits all eight Turtles from both periods against the original Krang and today’s Kraang Sub-Prime. And after witnessing each group’s world, the ep also explores the Turtles as their comic book versions from Kevin Eastman’s Mirage Studios comic book series.
Prior to the episode premiere, a brand-new video game, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Kickin’ it Old School, will launch on March 21 at Nick.com that features the ’80s Turtle environment.
Since its debut in 2012, Nick’s re-booted TMNT series has reached more than 170 countries and been translated in more than 50 languages.
Currently in season four, the series is executive produced by Ciro Nieli and Brandon Auman and is created at Nickelodeon Animation Studios in Burbank, California.
A new feature film, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows, is also set to be released June 3, after the success of Paramount Pictures’ 2014 TMNT movie.
