Continuing its strategy to double the volume of its original programming lineup to more than 30%, 24-hour US preschool net Sprout has commissioned a new Zodiak Kids Studios series, Kody Kapow. It has also greenlit three holiday specials and renewed Ruff-Ruff, Tweet and Dave.

Kody Kapow (pictured) follows the story of a young martial arts superhero who travels to a small village in China to live with his extended family. After learning the art of mindfulness, patience and perseverance from his grandfather, a martial arts master, Kody embarks on a series of adventures with his super-spy cousin and tiger friend Stripes in tow.

The animated series is scheduled to debut on Sprout in early 2017, is created by Alexander Bar (Mike the Knight) and developed for television by Robin Stein and Dan Franklin. Toronto, Canada-based studio Arc Productions is handling the series’ animation and Zodiak Kids Studios’ Eryk Casemiro is executive producing. Worldwide distribution rights, excluding the US, will be managed by Zodiak Kids.

Additionally a second season of Sprout’s hit original series Ruff-Ruff, Tweet and Dave has been ordered, It is expected to debut this fall, along with a new Ruff-Ruff, Tweet and Dave Christmas special. A Hanukkah special based on prequel series Nina’s World, meanwhile, is also in the works.

Finally, a Christmas movie based on Sprout’s new live-action show Terrific Trucks will hit the holiday schedule after the series debuts in July.

Sprout’s latest programming moves come on the heels of successful original series launches for Zodiak’s Floogals and Little People from DHX Media and Mattel.

The network also recently announced the pick-up of Kids’ CBC-commissioned Dot., based on a book by Randi Zuckerberg. It will premiere on the net in September.
