Oscar winner Akiva Goldsman (A Beautiful Mind) has been tapped by Paramount and Hasbro to oversee the writer’s room for the studios’ new cross-property film universe that features five Hasbro brands, including G.I. Joe.

The renowned writer, producer and director will helm creative development for the interconnected film universe, which also features Hasbro brands Micronauts, Visionaries, M.A.S.K. (Mobile Armored Strike Kommand) and ROM.

The appointment deepens Paramount-Hasbro’s existing relationship with Goldsman, who was brought on-board last year to head up writer’s rooms for the next iterations of the billion-dollar Transformers franchise, the G.I. Joe movie series and a feature based on Micronauts.

Now leading creative development for the expanded five-brand film universe, which was announced in December, Goldsman will be joined by acclaimed Hollywood writers Lindsey Beer (Wizard of Oz, Kingkiller Chronicle), Pulitzer Prize winner Michael Chabon (The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay), Cheo Coker (Luke Cage, Ray Donovan), Joe Robert Cole (Black Panther, People vs. OJ), Nicole Perlman (Guardians of the Galaxy, Captain Marvel), Jeff Pinkner (Lost, The Dark Tower), Nicole Riegel (Soldier Girls), Geneva Robertson (Atlantis, Tomb Raider) and Brian K Vaughan (Under the Dome, Lost).

He will also serve as executive producer on all upcoming films, which will be produced by Hasbro label Allspark Pictures.

Hasbro’s chairman, president and CEO Brian Goldner, and EVP and CCO Stephen Davis, will produce the movies along with the company’s co-head of storytelling, Josh Feldman, who is co-executive producer.

A team of Hasbro’s best artists and designers will work directly with the new writer’s room to assist in the visualization of the universe.

To date, director Michael Bay’s Transformers movies have raked in US$3.8 billion at the worldwide box office, while Paramount-Hasbro’s two G.I. Joe films combined have taken in more than US$675 million globally.

Transformers 5 is currently in pre-production and scheduled to premiere in 2017.
