While The Angry Birds Movie continues its worldwide success on the big screen, Rovio’s iconic game-based franchise is back to the small one with today’s exclusive premiere of Piggy Tales: Third Act on the ToonsTV app for iOS and Android devices.

Tying into the movie, the new 30 x one-minute third season of the Angry Birds Toons online spin-off series from Rovio Animation is theater-themed and finds the popular snorting green villains paying tribute to stage and screen classics, often with unintentional comedic results.

The first episode, “Wrong Floor,” is available via the standalone ToonsTV app today  and will reach the ToonsTV channel within Angry Birds games and the ToonsTV YouTube channel beginning June 5.

New eps will air weekly, including a number of multi-parters celebrating summer sports, back-to-school, Halloween and the holidays. A season finale will bow later this year.

Since launching in 2014, Piggy Tales has been viewed more than one billion times, while ToonsTV has amassed more than six billion views since its debut a year earlier as an ad-supported distribution channel.

To date, ToonsTV, which recently made the jump to the latest version of Apple TV, airs its programs on more than 30 channels featuring free, on-demand video content and original scripted animated series, such as Angry Birds Toons and Stella, as well as third-party shows like Wallace and Gromit, Pucca, Qumi-Qumi and National Geographic’s Zooville and 50 Birds, 50 States.

The Angry Birds Movie, meanwhile, has so far reached number-one at the box office in 50 countries, including the US, China and India. Since its May 20 release, the film has grossed more than US$230 million at the global box office.
