Cars, cats & creativity drive Corus Kids’ 2016/17 lineup

Canadian kids channels YTV, Teletoon, Disney Channel and Treehouse will welcome a raft of new series to their programming lineups beginning this fall.

A raft of new kids programming is in store for Canada’s Corus Entertainment, which has revealed its 2016/2017 programming lineup.

Beginning this fall, specialty channel YTV will bow two new Canadian original series. Drive Me Crazy is a reality show that follows unlicensed teen drivers and their parents as they work together to pass an upcoming driver’s test. Ride, meanwhile, follows the adventures of Katherine “Kit” Bridges as she moves to England for her Dad’s new job at an elite equestrian boarding school.

Heading back to YTV are Game Shakers and Stanley Dynamic for new seasons, as well as new eps of SpongeBob Squarepants.

New Teletoon series include Canada’s Mercury Filmworks and Paris-based Technicolor co-pro Atomic Puppet, which follows an ordinary kid and his extraordinary transformation from superfan to superhero, DHX Media-produced Supernoobs, which features best friends who are accidentally recruited by an intergalactic alliance to help stop an evil space virus, and Counterfeit Cat, Tricon Kids & Family and Wildseed Kids’ story of a nine-year-old alien with uncontrollable superpowers that was recently picked up by Disney XD in the US.

As for Disney Channel, new animated series include Elena of Avalorwhich follows the House of Mouse’s first Latina princess.

Rounding off the additions are two new series focused on creative exploration, which are readying for their debut on preschool channel Treehouse. Nelvana-produced Ranger Rob chronicles the adventurous of its titular hero as he zip-lines, vine-swings and snowboards his way around his own backyard.

Rusty Rivets (pictured), meanwhile, from creator and co-producer Spin Master Entertainment, sees its main character get out of jams by re-purposing parts and objects into wild contraptions. The series was recently announced as part of Nickelodeon’s 2016/2017 programming slate.

And returning to the country’s top preschool net are Nelvana co-pros Little Charmers, Trucktown and Max & Ruby.
