The Jim Henson Company has partnered with UK-based indie prodco Narrativia to develop The Wee Free Men, the first novel in the bestselling Discworld series by the late British literary icon Sir Terry Pratchett, into a theatrical feature film.

Pratchett’s daughter Rhianna, co-director of Narrativia and an award-winning scriptwriter for videogames, comics, film and TV, whose credits include Tomb Raider, Heavenly Sword and Overload, will pen the adaptation with Brian Henson serving as producer.

She will also executive produce alongside Rob Wilkins and Rod Brown of Narrativia and Vince Raisa of Henson.

The Wee Free Men follows the adventures of a young witch-in-training, Tiffany Aching, who must defend her homeland from a dangerous faction of otherworldly beasts with help from a clan of tiny but fierce blue warriors known as Wee Free Men.

Pratchett’s late father founded Narrativia in 2012, and the company owns and controls the exclusive multimedia and merchandising rights to all of his works, including Discworld, whose combined sales exceed 85 million books worldwide.
