Canada’s DHX Media has partnered with the BBC Natural History Unit to produce a new CBBC series entitled The Zoo.

The observational documentary will follow animals at the UK’s Paignton Zoo, and with the help of computer-generated mouths and human voices, it will cover the subjects of everyday life, animal science and conservation.

The BBC Natural History Unit and DHX will produce 30 episode of the series, which is set to air in 2017 on the Beeb’s diginet CBBC. DHX Media will also handle global distribution for the show outside of the UK.

DHX has teamed up with CBBC on several series recently. In March, it was announced that the DHX Media, Technicolor and  A Stark Production-co-produced series The Deep would air on the children’s channel, and in December CBBC commissioned DHX to produce two seasons of Airmageddon, a remote-controlled drone competition series.

The Zoo will film at Paignton over the course of the summer. The series is executive produced by Jonny Keeling, and Aaron Paul is series producer.
