Girl-skewing STEM brand GoldieBlox has launched a new app, GoldieBlox: Adventures in Coding — The Rocket Cupcake Co., which is designed to teach the fundamentals of coding to young inventors.

The iOS app uses real coding concepts to deliver cupcakes to various characters within the game. Early coding techniques touched on include sequential execution, mental modeling of program behavior, debugging, and tuning procedural generation. And the game’s concepts become more difficult as players proceed to more advanced levels of play.

According to the National Center for Women & Information Technology (NCWIT), females made up only 25% of the computing workforce in 2015.  And while GoldieBlox is focused on inspiring young girls to get into coding, the game is also designed to make STEM-related subjects more accessible for boys and girls alike.

News of the app follows the announcement of GoldieBlox’s recent deal with Random House for an original book series, which is slated for release in early 2017.
