Level-5’s popular anime/video game IP Yo-Kai Watch will extend its TV and retail exposure in the lead-up to the busy back-to-school period, with a second season premiere on Disney XD and a wave of new merch in the works.
Disney XD will bow season two of the boy-skewing comedy-adventure series on August 1, with 10 consecutive new episodes airing weekdays through to August 12 at 12:30 p.m. ET/PT.
The 50-episode season, featuring more than 90 new Yo-Kai characters, will then move into its regular Saturday morning timeslot at 8:30 a.m. beginning August 27.
New back-to-school consumer products set to hit Walmart, Target, Kmart, Toys “R” Us and Hot Topic include backpacks, accessories, apparel, sleepwear, footwear and plush.
In addition, two new Yo-Kai Watch video games, Yo-Kai Watch 2: Bony Spirits and Yo-Kai Watch 2: Fleshy Souls, will launch on September 30 for Nintendo 3DS, featuring exclusive medals to unlock special power moves.
Toy partner Hasbro will also unleash new Yo-Kai Watch items, including Yo-Kai Watch Model Zero and Yo-Motion Yo-Kai Medals on October 1.
An extensive Yo-Kai Watch promotion is currently underway at this week’s Comic-Con in San Diego, anchored by a first-ever Yo-Kai Interactive Area in Petco Park that features screenings, Yo-Kai dance lessons, prize giveaways, a trading card tournament, a gaming zone, photo opps and new product previews.
In the last two years, Yo-Kai Watch has racked up US$2.2 billion in worldwide merchandise sales.
The co-pro from Dentsu, Level-5 and TV Tokyo also recently made its Disney XD LatAm debut on June 13.
