School of Dragons moves into publishing

A book series based on the MMORPG—built around DreamWorks Animation’s How to Train Your Dragon franchise—takes flight September 6.

JumpStart is releasing an educational book series tied to its massive multiplayer online role-playing game School of Dragonsbased on DreamWorks Animation’s How to Train Your Dragon. Random House Children’s Books has acquired the license to publish the book series in the US.

More than eight million users currently play JumpStart’s School of Dragons worldwide.

The new books will feature fan favorite characters Hiccup, Toothless and Astrid as they explore scientific and historical concepts like inventions, storms and volcanoes. The books’ STEM content is targeted to children ages seven to 10 and each 80-page book will also offer readers free digital codes to redeem within School of Dragons.

The first two titles—School of Dragons Volcano Escape! and School of Dragons Greatest Inventions—will launch at retailers in the US and Canada on September 6 in paperback and eBook formats.

A book series marks the expansion of JumpStart and DreamWorks’ partnership. Previously, JumpStart launched a mobile app based on DreamWorks’ popular Madagascar franchise that mixed math with gameplay.
