The SVOD’s educational escapades continue to be in full swing, with a new version of UK hit literacy-based preschool series Bookaboo slated to premiere as an Amazon Original on Prime US and UK on October 28.
The series, which combines puppetry, live action and CGI animation, features celebrity guests who share their favorite picture books with Bookaboo, a drum-playing puppy.The stories are brought to life through animation, and each episode also features comedy sketches and original songs.
Bookaboo was created by producer Happy Films’ founder Lucy Goodman and its latest edition is being co-produced with Toronto-based Sinking Ship Entertainment (Annedroids).
Celebrity guests this time around include Paula Abdul (American Idol), Molly Parker (House of Cards), Hannah Simone (New Girl), Emily Van Camp (Captain America: Civil War), NFL player Antonio Brown and NASA astronaut commander Chris Hadfield.
Amazon’s first season of Bookaboo will be available exclusively to Prime members through the Amazon Video app for TVs, connected devices and online. Prime members will also be able to download the show for offline viewing.
Bookaboo was originally commissioned by UK broadcaster CiTV and first aired in 2010. Additionally, a Canadian version was co-produced by Happy Films and Montreal’s Cite Amerique for Kids’ CBC in 2012.
