Canadian tech startup KidsWifi has officially unveiled a new internet device designed to protect kids during their online interactions.

The KidsWifi device is available in Canada and the US, and will soon launch globally. It plugs into a home electrical outlet and connects to the WiFi network in order to block inappropriate materials. Parents can adjust the device to fit their individual family needs and KidsWifi protects every internet-connected device inside the home, including tablets and smart phones.

Analytics are part of the KidsWifi’s dashboard, so parents can view the blocked sites and ads accessed by family devices. KidsWifi also features a customizable automatic bedtime shut-off and morning turn-on.

Children’s internet safety continues to be a growing concern, with the recent fining of Viacom, Mattel and JumpStart for ad-tracking infringements in the kids online space shining a spotlight on the importance of an age-appropriate internet for kids.

KidsWifi joins the ranks of fellow online safety services Kido’z and Kidoodle.TV. Kido’z—the global, kid-centric browser and web environment—recently launched its mobile filtering service Play Mode for android devices, while children’s VOD service Kidoodle.TV features no commercials and robust parental controls.
