The best in YouTube, online and social video—and the creators behind the lenses—were honored over the weekend and at last night’s 2016 Streamy Awards, which took place at the Beverly Hilton in L.A.
With a full list of kid-friendly nominees, including unboxing channel EvanTubeHD, chat show Kid President, teen Musical.ly star Baby Ariel and web comedy Kids React, as well as new award categories like Virtual Reality and 360-degree video, Live and Feature, this year’s awards clearly represented the changing face of the online video space.
Within the Channels, Series or Shows category, sWooZie was victorious for Best Animated Series (which was previously announced at a ceremony last Saturday), while MatPat’s Game Lab took home the prize for Best Virtual Reality and 360-Degree Video. Kid President (pictured) commanded the award within the Kids and Family slot.
YouTube and MTV star Todrick Hall, who recently struck a content partnership with AwesomenessTV, has won the Breakthrough Artist Award, and Lilly Singh’s #GirlLove Challenge took home the prize for Best Social Good Campaign.
The coveted Entertainer of the Year Award went to vlogger, comedian and prankster Yousef Erakat, also known to his 9.2 million YouTube subscribers as FouseyTube. The Breakout Creator award was handed to Vine superstar Liza Koshy, who first joined the platform as a high school student.
Within social video, a quickly rising powerful genre among the Gen Z cohort, the Snapchat Storyteller Award went to Shaun “Shonduras” McBride (shonduras), while the Best Viner Award was given to Thomas Sanders. Taking home the award within the Live category were AwesomenessTV hosts Merrell Twins.
