Sesame Workshop, the nonprofit media and educational organization behind Sesame Street, has announced the production of a new original animated series entitled Esme and Roy (working title), which will debut in the US on HBO.

Esme and Roy is created by Dustin Ferrer and Amy Steinberg, and is being produced in partnership with Corus Entertainment’s Toronto-based animation studio Nelvana.

The show will debut in Canada on Corus’ Treehouse and is available at this week’s MIPCOM for additional international distribution.

The 52 x 11-minute series follows a young girl, Esme, and her best friend, Roy, as they babysit monsters in their neighborhood. In keeping with Sesame Workshop’s educational mission, each episode finds Esme, Roy and their monster charged with learning something new.

The series is drawn by French illustrator Dankerleroux.
