As part of its commitment to launch 10 new independently owned and operated networks by 2019, US cable provider Comcast is adding Hispanic American-owned, family-focused networks Kids Central and Primo TV to its Xfinity TV service in January 2017.

Owned by Spanish-language cable TV programming aggregator Condista Networks, Kids Central is an English-language kidsnet that provides educational and entertaining content to bicultural Hispanic viewers ages three to seven.

The channel also offers a primetime block of family-oriented shows and VOD content in both English and Spanish.

Meanwhile, Primo TV is aimed at older kids ages six to 16. The English-language network, owned by Miami-headquartered Vme Media, will deliver a lineup not unlike Vme Kids’ content offering of animation, adventure shows and STEM-themed programs. Additional VOD options will also be available.

Comcast currently carries more than 160 independent networks. Other kidsnets accessible via Xfinity include BabyFirst Americas and Genius Brands’ Kids Genius.

In 2015, the cable giant also launched its own walled-off Kids Zone service on Xfinity TV to help close the linear/digital divide.

Its move into more programming for young bicultural Hispanic viewers comes as demand for content that empowers and better connects the next generation of US Hispanics with their cultural roots is on the rise.
