US publishing conglomerate Hearst has acquired a majority interest in independent family entertainment company Litton Entertainment.

Hearst, which also owns a 25% stake in DreamWorks-owned AwesomenessTV, is expected to close the deal by February 1.

Though terms of the acquisition have not been disclosed, Litton’s pro-social, educational TV brands, including Saturday morning programming block CBS Dream Team: It’s Epic!, NBC property The More You Know and The CW three-hour educational block One Magnificent Morning, are expected to complement Hearst’s growing family-friendly content portfolio.

Hearst Television currently reaches more than 21 million US television households and distributes programming from more than 70 channels, including ABC, NBC, CBS, The CW, MY Net, MeTV, This TV and Estrella.

Hearst also holds stakes in cable networks such as A&E, HISTORY, Lifetime and ESPN.

Headquartered in South Carolina, Litton has offices in New York, Boston and Burbank, California.
