Amazon Prime Video is launching its new original kids series Ronja, the Robber’s Daughter in the US and the UK on January 27. The series is based on a children’s novel penned by Astrid Lindgren, who also wrote Pippi Longstocking.
Produced by Studio Ghibli and the Astrid Lindgren Company’s Saltkrakan, the 26-episode series is narrated by Gillian Anderson (The X-Files) and directed by Goro Miyazaki (Up on Poppy Hill, Tales from the Earthsea).
The series follows 10-year-old Ronja, played by Teresa Gallagher, as she grows up surrounded by her parents and a band of robbers. The drama begins when she befriends the son of her father’s rival.
Amazon Prime has also inked a multi-year content deal in India with Xilam Animation to exclusively stream the four existing and three upcoming seasons of Oggy & the Cockroaches, as well as Zig & Sharko. Prime members will also have access to Xilam children’s series Floopaloo Where Are You, A Kind of Magic, If I were an Animal, Paprika and The Daltons.
The content ramp-up follows Amazon Prime Video recently moving into 200 additional countries, bringing with it a catalog of original children’s shows including Lost in Oz, Little Big Awesome and The Stinky and Dirty Show.
