Nickelodeon’s new animated preschool series Nella the Princess Knight is set to make its US debut on February 6 at 10 a.m. ET/PT. It will then roll out internationally later this spring.

The series features an eight-year-old princess knight who likes dancing at fancy balls and meeting fire-breathing dragons. She teams up with her unicorn, a knight and his trusty steed to go on adventures. The series premiere, “Sir Clod/Up All Knight,” will see the trio embark on its first adventure in the 40 x half-hour season.

Nickelodeon will be releasing episodes and exclusive content on NickJr.com and the Nick Jr. App, including a new game where players can ride through the kingdom with Nella and help return sleeping dragons to their homes.

The show was announced along with three other preschool shows from Nickelodeon last year. It is part of an increasingly common trend of children’s shows choosing to focus on strong female leads.

For example, there’s Disney’s Elena of Avalor, which recently partnered with Girls Scouts for a leadership initiative, as well as Doc McStuffins, which has a female lead who aspires to be a doctor just like her mom. DHX Media’s Rainbow Ruby, meanwhile, can transform into various jobs to help her toy friends. All of these shows have been finding success, with Doc McStuffins recently getting a fifth season and Rainbow Ruby signing a number of global broadcast agreements.
