YouTube gaming star Ali-A is partnering with Random House US and Penguin Random House UK on his first book, a middle-grade graphic novel entitled Game On!
Ali-A’s two YouTube channels have more than 13 million subscribers and 2.5 billion views, making him one of the most popular online stars in the UK. His one-book deal with OP Talent will give Penguin Random House’s children’s divisions world rights to the title.
Aimed at tweens, the graphic novel will launch in the UK on October 19 and in the US on October 24. The story follows Ali-A as the main character who must use his gaming skills to save the planet when aliens attack. The YouTuber worked with author Cavan Scott and Artist Alek Sotirovski on the graphic novel.
The book will carry a first printing of 100,000 copies and Michelle H. Nagler, associate publishing director of Random House Books for Young Readers, will oversee publication in the US.
Random House has a history of tapping into online talent. Last year, for one, Random House Children’s Books imprint Crown Books for Young Readers partnered with 15-year-old Emily Trunko on two books based on her Tumblr micro-blogs Dear My Blank and The Last Message Received.
