After a successful open call for projects last year, Mexico’s Ánima Estudios is partnering with Cartoon Network on a second animation contest to find the next wave of talented young Latin American creators.

Entitled Cortos, the new call for entries is officially open for original, comedic short-form series concepts targeting kids ages seven to 12.

The winners, which will be revealed June 5, will earn the opportunity to produce one of their episodes with Ánima for eventual broadcast on Cartoon Network’s various platforms in the region.

Selections will be picked based on concept, design, story, characters and technique, and first-place winners will be chosen by a joint committee from Ánima and Cartoon Network.

Following 200 entries last year, Ánima and Cartoon Network have expanded this year’s contest to more Latin American countries including Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Dominican Republic and Uruguay.

Participants have until April 28 to upload their projects on Ánima’s website.

Last year, Mexico’s The Seventh Knight won in the animated short film category, while WTQ: What the Quest Is This? took top spot out of the animated series submissions. Both shorts premiered on Cartoon Network LATAM and on its online platforms in November.
