Disney’s all-new mobile Club Penguin experience, Club Penguin Island, is ready to leave the nest as the virtual world’s web operations officially close.

Launching today, Club Penguin Island is a subscription-based app that features immersive gameplay where players can customize their penguin, embark on island quests, earn special rewards and take on daily challenges to level up their penguins. The app includes a new safety moderation system and a chat filter in addition to more familiar features like reporting tools, which allow users to self-moderate the community.

It is available through the Apple App Store and Google Play for free download with the option to purchase a recurring US$5 monthly subscription.

Original Club Penguin memberships will not be transferred to Club Penguin Island, though players were able to pre-register for the app to reserve their penguin’s name.

Club Penguin was co-created and co-founded by Lane Merrifield and Lance Priebe in 2005 and sold to Disney in 2007 for US$700 million. In 2011, the platform was the largest virtual world for kids ages six to 12 with registered users in more than 190 countries.
