American Girl’s Z Yang headlines Amazon special

The special, featuring American Girl's first Korean-American character, will premiere on Prime Video in the US, the UK, Germany and Austria on June 9.

Amazon Prime Video is launching its newest American Girl specialAn American Girl Story: Summer Camp, Friends for Lifeon June 9 in the US, the UK, Germany and Austria. The 30-minute special features the Mattel-owned doll company’s first Korean-American character,  Z Yang.

Summer Camp, Friends for Life follows Z (Zoe Manarel, The Nightingale) and Paz (Alison Fernandez, Logan), who attend a STEAM-based camp only to find that administrator are banning all digital devices. They think their summer is doomed until they make new friends and head on an adventure.

Debuting this week at retail, Z (short for Suzie) comes from American Girl’s most recent 18-inch doll line of contemporary characters designed to represent more diverse backgrounds, creative interests and experiences. For example, the line also includes the brand’s first-ever boy doll.

Summer Camp, Friends for Life marks the fourth special in which Amazon and American Girl have collaborated. Together, the companies have produced An American Girl Story Melody 1963: Love Has to Win, An American girl Story–Maryellen 1955: Extraordinary Christmas and An American Girl Story–Ivy & Julie 1976: A Happy Balance.
