US media company Sonar Entertainment has its sights set on producing and distributing kids content, following the acquisition of assets from Toronto and L.A.-based Tricon Films & Television.
Indie producer and distributor Tricon declared insolvency back in December, at which time it announced it was seeking a library buyer. Sonar has now acquired Tricon’s content slate, including popular series like Counterfeit Cat (pictured), which airs on Disney XD and Hulu in the US, Teletoon in Canada and in more than 200 countries worldwide through various broadcasters.
Sonar also acquired Tricon’s kids properties that are in development, including Go Away Unicorn for Disney and Corus. Beyond children’s fare, the company picked up several non-scripted series. It now has the distribution rights to more than 1,500 hours of Tricon’s library.
As part of the acquisition, some of Tricon’s senior executive team will be joining Sonar, including the prodco’s former president and founder Andrea Gorfolova.
