UK pay-TV giant Sky has commissioned Aliens Love Underpants AND…, a 12 x two-minute toon based on the popular books by Claire Freedman and Ben Cort. Produced by Sky Original Production and London’s Tiger Aspect, the series will premiere exclusively on Sky and the Sky Kids app this summer.

Aimed at kids ages three to six, the shorts follow underpants-wearing aliens as they sing and dance about cupcakes, spaceships and more.

Tiger Aspect’s Tom Beattie (Mr Bean, Charlie and Lola) will oversee animation, while David Schweitzer (Charlie and Lola, Mike the Knight) will compose the songs.

Aliens Love Underpants AND… will join other recently released short-form originals Miniteve and Big Block Singsong. The former is a series of educational mini-docs about animals, vehicles and playtime that is available exclusively on Sky UK and Ireland, while Big Block Singsong is an animated musical series from Goddard/Brown that’s also currently available to Sky customers.

The broadcaster also recently picked up Darrall Macqueen’s Bear Behaving Badly, which follows a man named Barney who lives manner-challenged bear. The series will be available later this month.

The commissions come as Sky Kids continues to ramp up its slate of originals. After tapping Lucy Murphy as Sky’s first dedicated head of kids content in November 2015, the broadcaster made its foray into original kids content last year with Morph, which premiered on Sky Kids alongside a range of popular third-party shows and original commissions aimed at an audience of tablet-toting three- to nine-year-olds.
