PBS KIDS, The Jim Henson Company and Herschend Studios are diving into ocean conservation awareness. The trio’s new social media and community engagement initiative entitled Ocean Friends Forever is kicking off with multiple PBS station events across the US this week to coincide with World Oceans Day on June 8.

PBS stations across the country will educate viewers on the underwater world through themed screenings, online activity pages and hands-on investigations with characters from Splash and Bubbles. Additionally, new digital game Help Our Kelp will encourage kids to keep a kelp forest healthy by cleaning invasive species, like sea urchins and clams, from the environment. The game will be available online and on the free PBS KIDS Games app later this week.

The effort is inspired by the new PBS KIDS series Splash and Bubbles, which encourages kids to explore ocean science and marine biology. Produced by The Jim Henson Company and Herschend Studios, the CGI-animated series is aimed at kids ages four to seven and follows the adventures of Splash, a yellowback fusilier fish, and Bubbles, a Mandarin dragonet.
