CHF Entertainment’s 2D-animated preschool series Pip Ahoy! has made its on-demand premiere in China, thanks to the UK-based prodco’s partnership with Yecheng Shanghai Media, Shanghai Media Group-owned Wings Media and China Telecom.
The first 52 Mandarin-dubbed episodes recently launched simultaneously across IPTV, SVOD and satellite networks in China, including Shanghai Online, Shanghai IPTV and BesTV, which is available in 20 million homes in Shanghai alone.
With more deals expected in the coming weeks, the program could reach a potential on-demand audience of nearly 900 million homes throughout China.
CHF has also begun production on a 26 x 11-minute third season of the series in collaboration with Wings Media. Delivery of the new season is expected at the end of 2017.
Pip Ahoy! follows the adventures of a young puppy named Pip, and his best friend Alba the kitten, around Salty Cove seaside resort.
The series made its television debut on Channel 5’s Milkshake block in the UK in June 2014 and has a master toy license with UK-based John Adams Leisure.
In related news, another UK-created preschool show—Teletubbies reboot from Darrall Macqueen—had its own on-demand premiere in China on June 1 after DHX Media secured deals with Chinese digital video platforms iQIYI and Youku. Other European preschool shows heading to China of late include GO-N’s Simon and CBeebies series Go Jetters, which recently launched on CCTV.
