Smith Global Media, a new L.A.-based theatrical distribution company founded by Harry Smith (Will Smith‘s brother), has acquired distribution rights to animated features Gnome Alone (pictured) and Charming. Both films are financed and produced by 3QU Media in association with SC Films International, and are created in Cinesite’s Montreal studio.

The films are also jointly produced by John H. Williams (Shrek).

Adventure comedy Gnome Alone will premiere later this year with a wide theatrical release. The movie follows Chloe, a high-school student who discovers her new home’s garden gnomes are no ordinary decorations. Soon, the gnomes need her help to fight against the Troggs, monsters invading the house through a portal from another world.

Gnome Alone stars Becky G (Power Rangers), Josh Peck (Grandfathered), Olivia Holt (Kickin’ It) and George Lopez (Rio) and is directed by Peter Lepeniotis (The Nut Job). Patrick Stump (Fall Out Boy) composed the score and wrote an original song performed by Becky G.

Charming, meanwhile, is set for wide theatrical release in Q2 2018. The animated comedy follows a young prince who was cursed as a child, causing every woman who meets him to fall in love. To break the curse, Prince Felipe Charming must embark on an epic journey accompanied by a strong-willed thief named Lenore. The movie was written and directed by Ross Venokur and stars Demi Lovato (Smurfs: The Lost Village), Wilmer Valderrama (That ’70s Show), Ashley Tisdale (Phineas and Ferb) and recording artists Sia and Avril Lavigne.

The deal follows Smith Global Media’s multi-year home entertainment distribution agreement for its releases with Sony Pictures Home Entertainment (SPHE). Through the agreement, SPHE will handle SVOD and television distribution in addition to digital and physical distribution worldwide. The acquisitions also come as Smith looks to aggressively grow its theatrical release slate for 2017 and 2018.
