Lionsgate has joined forces with Walden Media, Random House Children’s Books and Gap Kids on a tween-targeting educational outreach program inspired by the studio’s upcoming film, Wonder.
Running from now until April 1, 2018 across the US, the Wonder Certified Kind Classroom initiative is designed to bring acts of kindness, acceptance and inclusion to kids in grades three to six. It will provide resources to educators—including distributed materials surrounding themes of empathy—as part of a lesson plan incorporating challenges, art projects, group discussions and class unity activities. Teachers can register their classrooms on Lionsgate’s website.
Participating classrooms will be rewarded throughout the year in order to earn the accreditation of being a “certified kind classroom.” Prizes include a t-shirt design contest with eight winning concepts produced and sold in select North America Gap Kids stores and online. (All of the proceeds will benefit myFace and Children’s Craniofacial Association, two non-profits that support children with craniofacial conditions.)
Another prize is the Precept Discussion Sweepstakes that offers a chance for four hundred classrooms to win an exclusive screening of Wonder ahead of its November 17 release.
Based on R.J. Palacio’s worldwide bestseller, Wonder stars Julia Roberts, Jacob Tremblay and Owen Wilson. It tells the story of Auggie Pullman, a boy born with facial differences who can’t blend in at school.
