Building on its annual pro-social HALO Awards event and inspirational 2016 docu-series The HALO Effect, Nickelodeon has launched The HALO Movement, a new, year-round pro-social initiative that celebrates real kids who are helping and leading others.
Beginning this month, Nickelodeon is linking up with longstanding volunteer partners Key Club and DoSomething.org to mobilize kids and help them make a difference in the world.
For its role in the Nickelodeon HALO Movement, Kiwanis International-sponsored, student-led volunteer organization Key Club will provide its members with opportunities to participate in service projects and give them the chance to receive seed grants. Pro-social youth tech platform DoSomething.org, meanwhile, will give kids the chance to win monthly school scholarship funds for completing campaign work.
Information on the Nickelodeon HALO Movement can be accessed on digital hub WeHALO.com, which lets kids submit videos, photos or notes showing how they are helping and leading others. It also features tips and allows users to share their HALO moments across social channels using #WeHALO.
The initiative comes on the heels of Together We Rock, another pro-social initiative from Nick that’s dedicated to encouraging gender equity and tied to the kidsnet’s hit sitcom School of Rock.
In other efforts, Cartoon Network’s long-running Stop Bullying campaign is now operating year-round recognizing the growing need for more inclusive environments and empathy among kids.
