California-based Genius Brands International has secured a deal with Amazon that will see its new premium subscription streaming channel for familiesKid Genius Cartoons Plus!launch on low-cost, third-party premium video service Amazon Channels on September 28.

Spearheaded by GBI execs, including Kid Genius executive chairman Margaret Loesch, Kid Genius president Debra Pierson and GBI CEO Andy Heyward, the service will be available for Prime members for US$3.99 per month after a seven-day free trial.

Content for toddlers to tweens like Warren Buffett’s Secret Millionaires Club (26 half-hour eps and 26 shorts), Baby Genius (pictured) and Thomas Edison’s Secret Lab will be accessible via The Amazon Video App on TVs and mobile devices, and will also be downloadable for offline viewing at no extra cost.

Additional Kid Genius Cartoons Plus! series will include SpacePOP, Stan Lee’s Mighty 7, Martha Stewart’s Martha & Friends, Gisele Bündchen’s Gisele & the Green Team, Inspector Gadget, Liberty’s Kids, Dino Squad, Eddie is a Yeti, Carl Squared, La Golda and Heads Up. Preschool series The Day Henry Met, So Smart!, Baby Prodigy, and Happy Kids will also be featured in the offering.

Launched in the US in 2016, commercial-free Amazon Channels lets Prime subscribers add premium channel subscriptions—both live and on-demand—for a low monthly fee starting at US$1.93 per month. The subscriptions are available individually without the need to sign up for a bundle or a lengthy contract, and can be cancelled at anytime. Currently, more than 100 on-demand channels are offered on the service in the US.

Amazon Channels also expanded to Europe earlier this year launching in the UK and Germany with 40-plus subscription TV channels including preschool SVOD app Hopster, Ketchup TV, nature doc-focused Love Nature and UP Family. The fast growth of the service comes as the already competitive SVOD market for kids and families is expected to heat up like never before when Disney launches its own premium subscription service in 2019.
