Boomerang flies with Wind in the Willows

The Turner and Warner Bros.-owned SVOD will launch a 52-episode original series based on Kenneth Grahame's literary classic.

Turner and Warner Bros.-owned animation SVOD Boomerang has acquired US domestic rights to The Wind in the Willows from UK distributor Hoho Rights. The SVOD plans to turn Kenneth Grahame’s classic book into a new series of updated animated stories.

The new show consisting of 52 x 11-minute episodes is being developed by UK producer Martin Gates, who previously produced half-hour specials based on the book series. Hoho will distribute the toon globally with its joint MD, Oliver Ellis, serving as executive producer.

The Wind in the Willows was first published in 1908 and follows the adventures of Mole, Rat and Toad. It has since sold 85 million copies in 29 languages worldwide. The upcoming show will be pay tribute to original storylines while also making updates like new female characters Squirrel, Rabbit and Chief Weasel.

Newly launched Boomerang is home to an animation library that includes Hannah-Barbera, MGM and Looney Tunes fare. The streamer’s original series include Dorothy and the Wizard of Oz and Wacky Racers.
