Turner Japan is set to launch three new channels on dTV Channel, the streaming service from NTT DOCOMO. The channels will launch in January 2018, and mark the first time the Boomerang brand–Turner’s second flagship global kids channel–will be available in Japan.
Boomerang will debut with a number of classic animated series, including Scooby-Doo and Looney Tunes, along with the reboot of the Hanna-Barbera classic Wacky Races (pictured), which will make its national premiere on the channel.
Wacky Races joined Boomerang’s US SVOD service this spring before landing on Boomerang’s global linear TV channel in June. The addition of the show internationally is part of Boomerang’s plan to build the linear channel as a second flagship to Cartoon Network across global markets. With a reach of 126 million homes, Boomerang International has localized services in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Latin America and Asia.
In addition to making Boomerang available in Japan for the first time, the launch also introduces two new services, MONDO Mah-jong TV (featuring programming dedicated to the hugely popular game) and Tabi Tele (featuring travel and documentary-style content). These channels join Turner’s portfolio currently available in the territory, including Cartoon Network, MONDO TV, TABI Channel and CNN International.
